Material Type Key Characteristics Best For
HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) Semi-crystalline Highly resistant to moisture and chemicals, good impact resistance, more rigid than lower-density PE Durable/reusable trays, outdoor-adjacent or moisture-exposed storage
ABS Amorphous Rigid and tough with a smooth finish; readily accepts paint and adhesives Structural trays, higher-durability applications
HIPS (High Impact Polystyrene) Amorphous Forms and trims cleanly, cost-effective — the standard choice for most thermoformed packaging trays Standard packaging trays, prototypes, cost-sensitive runs
RPET (Recycled Polyester) Amorphous A budget-friendly alternative to PETG for clarity, made with post-consumer recycled content Clear trays where sustainability or recycled content matters
PETG (Thermoplastic Polyester) Amorphous Premium optical clarity, forms cleanly without pre-drying, resists stress-whitening Medical device trays, PCB/electronics trays, premium clear packaging
