ASTM D6251 - Standard Specification for Wood-Cleated Panelboard Shipping Boxes
Basic plywood transport packaging boxes (crates). Rated up to 1,000 lbs.

Supersedes US Military PPP-B-601 - Also includes styles that were removed from the 601(H) standard - Similar to Crate Pro LPO-nnn styles. Although the standard designates plywood bases, this standard is often used with a lumber base.
ASTM D6256 - Standard Specification for Wood-Cleated Shipping Boxes and Skidded, Load-Bearing Bases
Plywood transport shipping box with stronger base. Rated up to 2,500 lbs.

Supersedes MIL-B-26195 - Similar to the 601 but with a stronger base and support for the top - Similar to Crate Pro MPO-nnn styles.
ASTM D6039 - Crates, Wood, Open and Covered
Common style open/framed crate. Can be covered with plywood but typically left open.

Supersedes MIL-C-52950 - The D6039/Mil-C-52950 is the only standard for open frame crates. It includes many variations. Most often functional for industrial strength equipment that doesn't require
ASTM D6880 - Standard Specification for Wood Boxes
Basic lumber transport packaging boxes (crates) - up to 1,000# - often not over #500.

Supersedes US Military PPP-B-621 - The most common lumber box, in the United States - More common in developing countries - Similar to Crate Pro LLO-nnn styles. Sometimes modified and known as a Slat Crate or Open Crate.
ASTM D7478 - Crates, Wood: Lumber and Plywood Sheathed, Nailed and Bolted
Common crate standard starting at 4,000 lbs and up to 30,000 lbs. Includes options for sill or skid type bases.

Supersedes MIL-C-104

Similar to Crate Pro HPI-nnn and HLI-nnn styles. This style is often modified for larger and heavier loads well over 100,000#.
PPP-B-576(C) - Boxes, Wood-Cleated Panelboard
Although mostly for cleated non-plywood, this includes the styles that were extracted from the earlier 601 (C, D, E, F, G, H) - Uses corrugated paperboard sheathing with lumber cleating.

Up to 500# - These 576 styles were added back into the current ASTM D-6251 standard. Similar to Crate Pro LPO-nnn styles.
PPP-B-601(H) - Cleated Plywood Box
Basic plywood transport packaging boxes (crates) - usually up to 1,000# - often higher.

Superseded by ASTM D6251 - Still commonly referenced - Similar to Crate Pro LPO-nnn styles. Although the standard designates plywood bases, this standard is often used with a lumber base.
PPP-B-601(H) - Amendment 1
This amendment is included in the base document above.

Includes the use of HBS fasteners to make the container reusable.
PPP-B-621(D) - Lumber Box
Basic lumber transport packaging boxes (crates) - up to 1,000# - often not over 500#.

Superseded by ASTM D6880 but still commonly referenced - Similar to Crate Pro LLO-nnn styles. Although the standard designates a lumber base, this standard is often used with a plywood base.
MIL-B-26195(C) - Boxes, Wood-Cleated, Skidded, Load-Bearing Base
Common style wood box (crate) - often used in the weight range of 1,000# to 2,500# or higher. Up to 2,500# - often higher Superseded by ASTM D6256 - Similar to Crate Pro MPO-nnn styles. Offers multiple load bearing options. Generally intended as a 2-say entry container but the specification allows for 4-way entry options.
MIL-C-104(C) - Crates, Wood: Lumber and Plywood Sheathed, Nailed and Bolted
Common crate standard starting at 4,000# (sometimes lower weights) - includes options for sill or skid type bases.

Up to 20,000# or 30,000# depending on style - Similar to Crate Pro HPI-nnn and HLI-nnn styles. This style is often modified for larger and heavier loads well over 100,000#.
MIL-C-52950(A) - Crates, Wood, Open and Covered
Common style open/framed crate. Can be covered with plywood but typically left open.

Superseded by ASTM D6039 - The D6039/Mil-C-52950 is the only standard for open frame crates. It includes many variations

This handbook covers approved methods of blocking, bracing, skidding, and associated procedures used for the protection of industrial plant equipment (IPE) for shipment and handling.
BS-1133 Section 8 - Wood Boxes, Cases and Crates
British Standard 1133 covers all wood containers similar to US boxes (cases) and crates. Relative to a US handbook in that it doesn't present engineering parameters.

Although it is highly condensed, this document is similar to the ASTM Volume 19.05 in that it covers all types of wood containers however it often does not provide specific parameters for construction. Note that many non-US entities use the term 'case' universally for boxes and crates.
